te buddhā bhagavantas tān bodhisattvān mahāsattvān evam āhuḥ: eṣa kulaputrāḥ paścime yāvad adho digbhāge sahāyāṃ lokadhātau śākyamunir nāma tathāgato 'rhan samyaksaṃbuddḥs tiṣṭhati dhriyate yāpayati, tena jihvendriyaṃ nirṇamayya pūrvasyāṃ diśi gaṅgānadībālukopamā iokadhātavo (psp1-1: 108) 'vabhāsena sphuṭīkṛtā yāvad ūrdhvaṃ diśi, evaṃ daśasu dikṣu gaṅgānadībālukopamā lokadhātavo 'vabhāsena sphuṭīkṛtā yad uta bodhisattvānāṃ mahāsattvānāṃ prajñāpāramitāṃ deśanāya saṃprakāśanāya.

te bodhisattvās tāṃs tathāgatān evam āhuḥ: gamiṣyāmo vayaṃ bhagavaṃs tāṃ sahālokadhātuṃ taṃ bhagavantaṃ śākyamuniṃ tathāgataṃ darśanāya vandanāya paryupāsanāya, tāṃś ca daśadiksaṃnipatitān bodhisattvān mahāsattvāṃs tāṃ ca prajñāpāramitāṃ śravaṇāya.

te buddhā bhagavanta āhuḥ: gacchata kulaputrā yasyedānīṃ kālaṃ manyadhvam.

221:舌相光品第八

1)爾時世尊出廣長舌相,普遍三千大千世界。於其舌根出種種無央數百千光明,徹照十方各一恒沙國。2)是時東方及十方國土無央數諸菩薩,見是光明,各各自白其佛:是何瑞應,有是大光明?3)佛告諸菩薩言:西方去是度一恒邊沙,有佛世界,名沙訶,其佛號釋迦文。出舌相光明,為諸菩薩說般若波羅蜜。今有是應。4)於是十方恒沙國諸菩薩各白其佛言:我等欲往見釋迦文及諸菩薩,并欲聞般若波羅蜜。諸佛各各告諸菩薩言:欲往隨意。

222:授決品第五

1)於是世尊即出舌本,覆三千大千世界。從其舌本出無央數光明之耀,照於東方諸佛世界。2)應時東方江河沙等諸佛國土,而無央數不可計會諸菩薩摩訶薩覩光明,各各在其佛土自往咨啟諸佛世尊,而問斯誼:唯,天中天!是何威神而令此土光明普照?3)於時其國諸如來眾,各各告菩薩摩訶薩:善男子!欲知此變,西方去此江河沙等諸佛世界,有佛土名曰忍界,其佛號釋迦文怛薩阿竭、阿羅訶、三耶三佛,出舌本光明,照于東方江河沙等世尊世界,普令照曜周及十方。所以然者,為諸菩薩摩訶薩講般若波羅蜜。4)於時彼土菩薩摩訶薩各自啟佛:唯然,大聖!我等欲往稽首歸命釋迦文如來及諸菩薩摩訶薩,并欲聽省般若波羅蜜。其佛告曰:往,善男子!從仁擇時,如爾所欲。

223:舌相品第六

1)爾時世尊出舌相遍覆三千大千世界,從其舌相出無數無量色光明,普照十方如恒河沙等諸佛世界。2)是時,東方如恒河沙等世界中無量無數諸菩薩見是大光明,各各白其佛言:世尊!是誰力故,有是大光明普照諸佛世界?3)諸佛告諸菩薩言:諸善男子!西方有世界名娑婆,是中有佛名釋迦牟尼,是其舌相出大光明,普照東方如恒河沙等諸佛世界,南西北方四維上下亦復如是,為諸菩薩摩訶薩說般若波羅蜜故。4)是時諸菩薩各白其佛言:我欲往供養釋迦牟尼佛及諸菩薩摩訶薩,并欲聽般若波羅蜜。諸佛告諸菩薩:善男子!汝自知時。

220:第二分舌根相品第五

1)爾時,世尊現舌根相,量等三千大千世界。從此舌相復出無數種種色光,遍照十方殑伽沙等諸佛世界。2)爾時,東方殑伽沙等諸佛土中,一一各有無量無數菩薩摩訶薩,見此大光心懷猶豫,各各往詣自界佛所,稽首恭敬白言:世尊!是誰威力,復以何緣,有此大光照諸佛土?3)時,彼彼佛各各報言:於此西方有佛世界名曰堪忍,佛號釋迦牟尼如來、應、正等覺、明行圓滿、善逝、世間解、無上丈夫、調御士、天人師、佛、薄伽梵,今為菩薩摩訶薩眾宣說般若波羅蜜多,現舌根相,量等三千大千世界。從彼舌相復出無數種種色光,遍照十方殑伽沙等諸佛世界。今所見光即是彼佛舌相所現。4)時,彼彼界無量無數菩薩摩訶薩聞是事已,歡喜踴躍歎未曾有,各白佛言:我等欲往堪忍世界,觀禮供養釋迦牟尼如來、應、正等覺及諸菩薩摩訶薩眾,并聽般若波羅蜜多,唯願世尊哀愍聽許!時,彼彼佛各各報言:今正是時,隨汝意往。

CHAPTER 5 THE TONGUE

Thereupon the Lord on that occasion put out his tongue, and with it He covered this great trichiliocosm. Lights of many different colours issued from that tongue, and darted in all the ten directions to world-systems countless as the sands of the Ganges, and caused a great illumination.

(P96) In all the ten directions, in Buddha-fields countless as the sands of the Ganges, countless Bodhisattvas who had seen this glorious splendour questioned the Buddhas, the Lords, each one in their own Buddha-field: “whose is this might through which this splendour and illumination are shown forth?”

The Buddhas and Lords replied: “In the Saha world-system, in the West, etc. to: below, there stands, holds and maintains himself a Tathagata called Sakyamuni. As a result of his putting out his tongue the world-systems countless as the sands of the Ganges have in all direction everywhere been irradiated with illumination, so as to help the Perfection of Wisdom to be demonstrated and revealed to the Bodhisattvas, the great beings”. The Bodhisattvas then said to the Tathagatas: “We will go to that Saha world-system, in order to see, salute, and honour that Lord Sakyamuni, the Tathagata and the Bodhisattvas assembled from the ten directions, and to listen to that Perfection of Wisdom”. The Buddhas, the Lords replied: “Go then, sons of good family, as you see fit”.

atha khalu te bodhisattvā mahāsattvā daśabhyo digbhyaḥ puṣpadhūpagandhamālyavilepanacūrṇacīvaracchatradhvajapatākāvaijayantīr gṛhītvā nānāratnasuvarṇarūpyapuṣpapuṭāni ca gṛhītvā mahatyā tūryatāḍāvacarasaṃgītyā bhagavantaṃ śākyamunim upasaṃkrāntā abhūvan.

atha khalu cāturmahārājakāyikā devās trayastriṃśā devā yāmā devās tuṣitā devā nirmāṇaratayo devāḥ paranirmitavaśavartino devā brahmapurohitā devā mahābrahmāṇo devāḥ parīttābhā devā apramāṇābhā devā ābhāsvarā devāḥ parīttaśubhā devā apramāṇaśubhā devāḥ śubhakṛtsnā devā anabhrakā devāḥ puṇyaprasavā devā bṛhatphalā devā asaṃjñisattvā devāḥ śuddhābhāsā devā aspṛhā devā atapā devāḥ sudṛśā devāḥ sudarśanā devā akaniṣṭhāś ca devā divyapuṣpadhūpagandhamālyavilepanacūrṇacīvaracchatradhvajapatākā utpalakumudapuṇḍarīkamāndāravakesaratamālapatrāṇi gṛhītvā yena bhagavāṃs tenopasaṃkrāman.

atha khalu te bodhisattvās te ca devās taiḥ puṣpadhūpagandhamālyavilepanais tathāgatam arhantaṃ samyaksaṃbuddham avakiranti sma.

atha khalu tāni puṣpāṇi vaihāyasam abhyudgamyāsya trisāhasramahāsāhasrasya lokadhātor upariṣṭāt puṣpakūṭāgāraḥ saṃsthito 'bhūt catusthūṇaś caturasro bhāgataḥ suvibhakto ramaṇīyo manoramaḥ.

2211)於是諸菩薩各各取諸名華名香、種種幢幡珍寶華蓋,發其國土來詣忍界。2)諸四天王乃至阿迦膩吒天,各持天上諸名香華來詣佛所。3)諸天人諸菩薩皆悉來至,見釋迦文佛已,各各供養散諸名華。所散華寶,即於佛上在虛空中化成四柱臺。其臺高顯,四面窓向。臺遍三千大千剎土,各各莫不見有好臺,羅列分別不相障蔽,其臺妙好交露莊嚴,未曾所有。

2221)時諸菩薩啟佛見聽,各各自取眾蓋幢幡、香華敷飾、雜香擣香、金花銀花,往詣釋迦文怛薩阿竭、阿羅呵、三耶三佛,稽首佛足,各以所齎眾蓋幢幡、香華敷飾、雜香擣香、金華銀華,用散佛上及諸菩薩諸聲聞上。2)八方上下亦無央數不可計會諸菩薩摩訶薩,各各自於其國啟白世尊:此之威曜,何所從來?諸佛告曰:有佛號名釋迦文尼怛薩阿竭、阿羅呵、三耶三佛,出舌本光明之德,各照十方江河沙等諸佛國土,是其威曜。時諸菩薩各啟其佛:欲往稽首釋迦文見諸菩薩。諸佛告曰:往,族姓子!從仁擇時,如志所欲。諸菩薩眾各齎供養,往詣釋迦文怛薩阿竭、阿羅訶、三耶三佛,稽首作禮。進上所齎,却坐一面,聽佛所說。3)於時四大王天上諸天人,忉利天、焰天、兜率天、尼摩羅天、波羅尼蜜天,上至阿迦膩吒天,各齎天花、天香天擣香天雜香、青蓮華紅蓮花黃蓮華白蓮華,皆以天上微妙香華,各各執持往詣佛所。4)於時諸天上及諸菩薩,各各齎持香花雜香擣香,各各供養奉散如來、至真、等正覺上。於時所散華香,上在虛空化為宮殿在於四方,而於虛空中向于四面,微妙分明,皆以眾寶人所悅樂。

2231)是時,諸菩薩摩訶薩持諸供養具,無量花蓋幢幡、瓔珞眾香、金銀寶花,向娑婆世界,詣釋迦牟尼佛所。2)爾時四天王諸天乃至阿迦尼吒諸天,各持天上天香末香澤香、天樹香葉香、天種種蓮花青赤紅白,向釋迦牟尼佛所。3)是諸菩薩摩訶薩及諸天所散諸花,於三千大千世界虛空中化成四柱大寶臺,種種異色莊嚴分明。

2201)時,諸菩薩摩訶薩眾既蒙聽許,各禮佛足右繞七匝,嚴持無量寶幢、幡蓋、衣服、瓔珞、香鬘、珍寶、金銀等花,奏擊種種上妙音樂,經須臾間至此佛所,供養恭敬、尊重讚歎佛菩薩已遶百千匝,頂禮雙足退坐一面。南西北方四維上下殑伽沙等諸佛土中,一一各有無量無數菩薩摩訶薩亦復如是。2)爾時,四大王眾天、三十三天、夜摩天、覩史多天、樂變化天、他化自在天、梵眾天、梵輔天、梵會天、大梵天、光天、少光天、無量光天、極光淨天、淨天、少淨天、無量淨天、遍淨天、廣天、少廣天、無量廣天、廣果天、無繁天、無熱天、善現天、善見天、色究竟天,各持無量種種香鬘,所謂澤香、末香、燒香、樹香、葉香、諸雜和香,悅意花鬘、生類花鬘、龍錢花鬘并無量種雜類花鬘,及持無量上妙天花、嗢鉢羅花、鉢特摩花、俱某陀花、奔荼利花、微妙音花、大微妙音花及餘無量天妙香花來詣佛所,供養恭敬、尊重讚歎佛菩薩已繞百千匝,頂禮雙足却住一面。

爾時,十方諸來菩薩摩訶薩眾及餘無量欲、色界天,所獻種種寶幢、幡蓋、衣服、瓔珞、珍寶、香花及諸音樂,以佛神力上踴空中,合成臺蓋,量等三千大千世界,臺頂四角各有寶幢,臺蓋、寶幢皆垂瓔珞,勝幡妙綵、珍異花鬘,種種莊嚴甚可愛樂。

Those Bodhisattvas, those great beings, from all the ten directions, having taken flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, robes, parasols, flags, banners and streamers, having taken jewels, gold, silver and flower-buds, approached the Lord Sakyamuni with the music of turyas and cymbals.

And the various classes of gods (P97) having taken heavenly flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, robes, parasols, flags, banners, blue lotuses, night lotuses, white lotuses, Mandarava flowers, Kesara flowers and Tamala leaves, also approached the Lord. The Bodhisattvas and gods scattered those flowers, etc. over the Tathagata.

Thereupon those flowers, etc., rose into the intermediate space, and above this great trichiliocosm a pointed Tower of flowers shaped itself, with four pillars, quadrangular, well proportioned, enjoyable, pleasing to the mind.

atha khalu tataḥ parṣadaḥ prāṇikoṭīniyutaśatasahasram utthāyāsanād ekāṃsam uttarāsaṅgaṃ kṛtvā dakṣiṇaṃ jānumaṇḍalaṃ pṛthivyāṃ (psp1-1: 109) pratiṣṭhāpya yena bhagavāṃs tenāñjaliṃ praṇamya bhagavantam etad avocat: vayaṃ bhagavann anāgate 'dhvani evaṃrūpāṇāṃ dharmāṇāṃ lābhino bhavema yathā tathāgato 'rhan samyaksaṃbuddhaḥ, evaṃ ca śrāvakagaṇaṃ parikarṣema evaṃ ca parṣadi dharmaṃ deśayema yac caitarhi tathāgato bhagavān dharmaṃ deśayati.

atha khalu bhagavāṃs teṣāṃ kulaputrāṇām āsayaṃ viditvā sarvadharmāṇāṃ cānutpādāyānirodhāyānabhisaṃskārāyāprādurbhāvāya kṣāntiṃ viditvā smitam akarot. atha tato 'nekavarṇā raśmayo bhagavato mukhadvārān niścaritās te sarvāvantaṃ lokaṃ pradakṣiṇīkṛtya punar evāgatā bhagavato mūrdhany antardhīyante sma.

atha khalv āyuṣmān ānanda utthāyāsanād ekāṃsam uttarāsaṅgaṃ kṛtvā dakṣiṇaṃ janumaṇḍalaṃ pṛthivyāṃ pratiṣṭhāpya yena bhagavāṃs tenāñjaliṃ praṇamya bhagavantam etad avocat: ko bhagavan hetuḥ kaḥ pratyayaḥ smitasya pradurbhāvāya?

atha khalu bhagavān āyuṣmantam ānandam etad avocat: etad ānanda prāṇikoṭīniyutaśatasahasram aṣṭaṣaṣṭyā kalpakoṭībhir bodhyaṅgapuṣpanāmānas tathāgatā arhantaḥ samyaksaṃbuddhā loka utpatsyante puṣpākare kalpe.

iti ṣaḍabhijñāvavādaḥ

2211)於是坐中諸億百千人,各各從坐起,長跪叉手前白佛言:唯,世尊,願使吾等於當來世逮得法利,當如世尊今於百千眾圍繞說法,所現感動亦當如是。2)佛於是知諸大眾各已有仍堪任於諸法無所從生法忍。佛便笑。3)阿難白佛:何因緣笑?願聞其意。佛告阿難:是億百千眾皆得無所從生法忍,却後六十八億劫劫名散華,皆當作佛,號覺華如來、無所著、等正覺。

2221)於眾會億百千姟,皆共叉手自歸命佛,而問世尊:唯,天中天!我等之身當來之世,願得法利亦復如是,如怛薩阿竭、阿羅呵、三耶三佛,諸聲聞眾亦當如是,為諸會者講說經法,如今所演。2)爾時世尊知善男子心之所念,覩一切法永無所起亦無所行,一切諸法無所逮得,見心所忍,佛應時笑。3)賢者阿難前白佛言:佛何因笑?笑當有意。佛告阿難:今此眾會億百千姟人,皆悉逮得不起法忍,過於當來六十八億劫,當得作佛,號曰覺華怛薩阿竭、阿羅訶、三耶三佛,明行成為、善逝、世間解、無上士、道法御、天人師,號佛、世尊,劫名華事,世界曰嚴華。

2231)是時釋迦牟尼佛眾中有十萬億人,皆從座起,合掌白佛言:世尊!我等於未來世中亦當得如是法,如今釋迦牟尼佛弟子、侍從、大眾、說法亦爾。2)是時,佛知善男子至心於一切諸法不生不滅、不出不作,得是法忍。佛便微笑,種種色光從口中出。3)阿難白佛言:世尊!何因緣故微笑?佛告阿難:是眾中十萬億人,於諸法中得無生忍。是諸人於未來世,過六十八億劫當作佛,劫名花積,佛皆號覺花。

2201)爾時,會中有百千俱胝那庾多眾皆從座起,合掌恭敬而白佛言:世尊!我等未來願當作佛,相好威德如今世尊。國土莊嚴,聲聞、菩薩、人、天眾會,所轉法輪,皆如今佛。2)爾時,世尊知其心願已,於諸法悟無生忍,了達一切不生不滅、無作無為,即便微笑,面門復出種種色光。3)時,阿難陀即從座起,合掌恭敬白言:世尊!何因何緣現此微笑?諸佛現笑非無因緣!佛告阿難:是從座起百千俱胝那庾多眾,已於諸法悟無生忍,了達一切不生不滅、無作無為。彼於當來經六十八俱胝大劫勤修菩薩行,妙法花劫中當得作佛,皆同一號,謂覺分花如來、應、正等覺、明行圓滿、善逝、世間解、無上丈夫、調御士、天人師、佛、薄伽梵。

Hundreds of thousands of niyutas of kotis of living creatures from that assembly thereupon rose from their seats, put their upper robes over one shoulder, placed their right knees on the earth, stretched forth their folded hands to the Lord, and said to the Lord:“We, O Lord, will in a future period become recipients of such dharmas as the Tathagata is a recipient of, and thus will we foster the community of the disciples and thus will we demonstrate dharma to the assembly, just as now the Tathagata, the Lord demonstrates Dharma here”.

The Lord then knew the resolution of those sons of good family, he knew their patient acceptance of the non-production of all dharmas, of their non-stopping, of their not being brought about, of their non-manifestation – and He smiled. Various-coloured rays issued from his mouth, circulated round the whole world, and then returned to the Lord, and disappeared in his head.

The Venerable Ananda thereupon rose from his seat (P98), put his upper robe over one shoulder, placed his right knee on the earth, stretched forth his folded hands towards the Lord, and said to the Lord: “What is the cause, what the reason for the manifestation of a smile?”

The Lord replied: “These hundreds of thousands of niyutas of kotis of living creatures will, after sixty-eight kotis of aeons, appear in the world as Tathagatas, Bodhyangapushpa by name, in the Pushpakara aeon”.
